Start a tech company with zero technical knowledge

We will get to know how to start a tech company without technical knowledge, but a little bit of this story will help calm your anxiety.

Dhirubhai Ambani, a name that echoes in every household in India because of the revolution it brought with the mobile and the advertisement that had the slogan, “Kar lo Duniya mutthi mai”. Dhirubhai Ambani, an entrepreneur who believed and said,

“Our dreams have to be Bigger, Our Ambitions Higher ,Our commitments Deeper and Our efforts Greater”

It was his dream for Reliance and India.

Hold your guns! I know he didn’t start a technical company, to begin with.In fact, he didn’t but he had this vision and dreamt of “ A Digital India”. He looked at India, where the common man would have the availability of information and communication at an affordable price. Born to a school teacher, he came from a humble background, a village in Gujarat. He became India’s business tycoon.

He wanted to equip the common man to overcome the handicap of illiteracy and lack of mobility through technology. With this dream in mind, Reliance Communication(formerly Reliance Infocomm) started its project by laying down the Pan-India fibre optic backbone. Sadly it was commissioned on Dhirubhai’s 70th birthday in 2002, after his unexpected death.

This little story was to let you know that with a blend of knowledge, planning, strategy, and the 4 pillars one can do what one wants.

Today there are many start-ups with “ No Code tools” that have become a powerful building block for both technical and non-technical creators.Hope now you have got the answer to the question, that “can a non- technical person can begin a Technical start-up”? The clear answer is “YES”

A postmortem of about 101 start-up shows the main 5 reasons for failure is:

  1. Launching a product in a “ No Need market”
  2. Many of the Start- Up’s ran into the dry zone “Ran out of cash”
  3. Lack of knowledge to build the” Right team”
  4. Thrown out by competitors
  5. Pricing and Cost Issue

Being a non-technical person is no hurdle in launching your tech startup. Surely you have heard of Jack Ma,the brain child behind Alibaba, the multinational technology company. Jack Ma is another example of a non-technical person with no technical knowledge.

If you have an extraordinary idea for a tech start-up, then relax because you can change your idea into a reality.

There are many examples of companies which are envisioned by non-technical founders. Hope by now you are completely at ease and can now without any doubt start you technical start-up.

Keep the 4 pillars in mind and then build your start up using these steel rods-

1. Go the No-Code way

Is it possible?Yes! It is possible. The techies too have to run their business. It is we, the Non-Techies, who are their Target audience. It was when I was associated with a content writer, that I got to know these software developers, who create softwares to make work really easy. Every time I was asked to write copies for a product, I was left astounded and it gave me confidence that I can start a tech company because of these drag and drop tools and others that are very simple to use.

You can choose from either going No-Code, or a Low code, or a mix of both. Whatever you choose, you need to work on a base platform.

The low code tools allow users to build sites that can be customised for multiple devices and that too from a single platform. Some examples of low code applications are Wix, WordPress, Weebly, and others.

If your technology is complicated and you need coding, Then there are options, Either you learn Coding which is not very easy, but it can be a Backup plan.

The other option is finding a Tech Co-founder. Having a technical co-founder will help to speed up and boost your chances of success. Besides, a co-founder will help your shoulder the responsibilities.

Point to Remember: While choosing a Technical co-founder keep in mind that the person should be only a technical person but should also possess a passion to start the business. The energy must match with your team (if any) or with you.

And the last option is tohire a Technical team or a developer. I know many successful individuals who have hired or collaborated with Developers and started their Tech companies. It is a win-win for both.

2. Always Keep yourself Updated

Choose any options, do not become complacent, Keep yourself updated as technology changes very fast. Besides, also take a daily update from your team.It helps in knowing the progress and latest development of work.

Interacting with the teammates will build a good working environment where they will have the freedom to share their thoughts too.

3. Recruit a Highly skilled and Passionate team

Behind every successful business, there is a skilled and passionate team. As a founder of a Start-up, you may be Intelligent, Resourceful and a master of your domain however, your business can achieve success with a skilled and passionate team who see your vision as their own vision.

Assess their skills by assigning projects individually and Team-wise too. Set the projects with timelines. This way you will be able to assess their individual knowledge, zeal, and Teamwork spirit.

4. Lead Confidently

Being a non-technical person, you need to believe in the Tech Start-Up you have begun. Remember just because you are a non-technical person, you cannot be successful in running a Technical Start-up.

In the beginning of the article, we have shared examples of some of the non-techies who are successfully running the technical business.

Many helper apps are available to make tasks easy. Data transfer apps like Zapier, Slack, Microsoft Flow, Integromat, and many others can be used. There are third-party service providers too that will make you automate some of your processes.
